About Our Services
We look forward to making your baby’s first days as special as they are.
Skin-to-Skin Time
It is our goal that your baby spends the first hour of life, the “golden hour,” skin-to-skin, regardless of feeding method. This allows for optimal bonding and is critical to the child’s growth and development. This also helps baby’s breathing, blood sugar and heart rate to stabilize.
Rooming In
We practice rooming in - meaning baby stays in the room with mom - in order to decrease mom and infant’s anxiety and increase successful breastfeeding. Nurses are available at any time to assist with needs or concerns that may arise. We will also gladly complete physician rounds and any testing possible at the bedside to ensure babies and parents do not have to be separated.
Birth Registrar
The birth registrar at Crestwood Medical Center will come to your bedside to complete your child’s birth certificate and social security card information during your stay. You will need a photo ID.
Family-Centered Cesarean
Operating rooms for cesarean sections are located on the same unit to promote safety and expedite your care in an emergency. We offer a family-centered cesarean section to allow minimal separation from your infant and skin-to-skin bonding and breastfeeding while in the surgical suite and recovery. An optional clear drape is available for viewing of your child’s birth.
“Delay for Eight”
Your baby will be bathed approximately eight hours after birth. Your baby is born with a natural moisturizer, called vernix. At birth, we will dry your baby but leave vernix on. Vernix provides many protective benefits, including:
- Maintains water balance to keep skin soft
- Provides an extra layer of protection while baby’s immune system is getting stronger
- Helps baby keep warm
- Keeps blood sugar stable
- Makes introduction of breastfeeding easier
Physician Visits
Your obstetrician will see you daily after you deliver. Your child’s
pediatrician will visit daily as well. These visits can take place in
your room if you choose. If your pediatrician does not round at
Crestwood, an experienced, on-staff neonatologist and pediatricians will
take care of your baby and transfer their records for you.
Visitor Information
Crestwood Medical Center takes pride in our family-friendly environment and since babies can come at any day or time, we do not limit your visitors to certain hours. We will gladly welcome visitors of all ages at any time you wish. However, we also offer confidential status to limit visitors as requested.
Safety & Security
The maternity unit is locked to ensure the safety of our patients and infants. There is video-monitored surveillance throughout the unit. All infants wear HUGS tags to ensure that they are safe at all times. The HUGS tag system, if tampered with, removed, or near an exit, will alarm, lock unit doors, and security is immediately called to the floor. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about security measures.
Celebration Meal
Every family is offered a celebration meal prior to discharge. This is a three course meal that is brought to the room on a white linen tablecloth for the mother and her guest to enjoy. Vegetarian or special request options are available. This is our way to help you celebrate your new arrival.
Newborn Photography
Crestwood Maternity Center contracts with Simply Blessed Portraits to photograph your baby during your stay at Crestwood. The photo session is free with no obligation to purchase.
