Crestwood Medical Center to Expand Access to Emergency Care with Freestanding ER in Madison
3/7/2025
MADISON, Ala. – Crestwood Medical Center announced plans to expand access to emergency care with the construction of a new freestanding emergency department (FED) in Madison. The proposed 12,000 square-foot facility will serve patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing emergency medical services to residents of Madison and surrounding communities.
Recent project approval from the City of Madison’s Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals marks a significant step in bringing expanded healthcare services to the area, reinforcing Crestwood’s commitment to meeting the needs of Madison’s rapidly growing population.
"We appreciate the support of the zoning board and city officials in helping bring this much-needed emergency facility to the community," said Justin Serrano, chief executive officer of Crestwood Medical Center. "As Madison continues to grow, access to emergency medical care remains a top priority. This new facility is a significant investment in the health and well-being of residents, ensuring they receive timely, high-quality care close to home."
The new facility represents an estimated $22 million investment, further demonstrating Crestwood Medical Center’s dedication to enhancing healthcare access in North Alabama. Groundbreaking is expected to take place in the summer of 2025, with the facility anticipated to open in early 2026.
The freestanding ER will be staffed by emergency medicine physicians and a highly trained clinical team and offer the same level of emergency care as a traditional hospital emergency department. It will be fully equipped with advanced imaging technology, on-site laboratory services and private treatment rooms to serve patients with illnesses and injuries that require a higher level of care than urgent care facilities offer.
The freestanding emergency department in Madison will include:
- 24/7 emergency care
- Advanced diagnostic services, including CT, X-ray, ultrasound and MRI
- On-site laboratory testing for rapid results
- Ambulance bays for quick and safe patient transport
- Helipad
- Seamless coordination with Crestwood Medical Center for higher levels of care if needed
Crestwood Medical Center opened its first freestanding emergency department in Harvest in July 2024.
