Crestwood Care Team Celebrates Patient Safety Milestone
6/25/2024
In the fast-paced world of healthcare, milestones are not just markers of time but also reflections of dedication, teamwork, and a commitment to patient safety. The care team at Crestwood Medical Center is thrilled to celebrate a significant achievement: 305 consecutive days without a catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI).
“CAUTIs are a serious concern in healthcare settings that could lead to prolonged hospital stays,” said Lance Eiland, chief nursing officer at Crestwood Medical Center. “These infections are largely preventable with rigorous adherence to infection control protocols, meticulous catheter care, and a culture of patient safety, which I’m proud to say the Crestwood care team has made a priority and evident in the results.”
Catheter-associated urinary tract infections, (or CAUTIs) are the most common type of healthcare-associated infections in a hospital. Preventing CAUTIs involves following strict infection control measures, including proper catheter care, timely removal of catheters when no longer needed, and maintaining good hygiene practices among healthcare providers.
“The success we've achieved is the outcome of the dedication and hard work of numerous individuals, such as the nursing department at Crestwood Medical Center, our physician champions, and infection preventionists. To prevent CAUTIs, the hospital implemented several Best Practices to improve the quality of care to our patients,” said Eiland.
As the Crestwood care team celebrates this milestone, they remain committed to continuous improvement, setting new goals, and maintaining the highest standards of healthcare excellence.
