Patient Visitation Rights

Patients have the right to designate the visitors they wish to receive during their hospitalization. Visitation will not be restricted or denied on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.

Patients may withdraw or deny visitation consent at any time.

Support Persons

Patients may designate a support person to exercise visitation rights on their behalf if they are unable to do so.

A designated support person may exercise visitation rights but does not have medical decision-making authority unless separately granted.

Safety & Health Guidelines

To protect patients and staff:

  • Visitors must be free from fever or visible signs of illness
  • Visitors must not have recent exposure to communicable disease
  • Visitors must follow isolation precautions when applicable
  • The number of visitors at the bedside may be limited for safety and space considerations

During emergency situations, visitors may be asked to step out temporarily.

ICU & Department-Specific Guidelines

Certain departments may have additional visitation guidelines, including:

  • Emergency department: Two visitors are allowed with the patient.
  • Intensive care units: Two visitors are allowed at a time from 9:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. Visitors must be 16+.
  • Neonatal units: Parents are allowed to visit. Additional visitors are allowed from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Children and siblings are not allowed.
  • Labor and delivery: Two support people are allowed at a time to be in the room and people can alternate.
  • Postpartum: Visitors are allowed 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Please check with unit staff for department-specific guidance.

After-hours Access
An overhead announcement is made each evening at the end of visiting hours. After designated hours, visitor access may be restricted to specific entrances.
Virtual Visitation
When appropriate, arrangements may be made for virtual visitation using hospital-provided or personal electronic devices.
Tobacco-Free Campus Policy

HH Health maintains a strict tobacco-free policy across all facilities and properties. Smoking, vaping and the use of any tobacco or nicotine products — including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes, vaping devices and smokeless tobacco — are not permitted inside buildings, in outdoor areas such as entrances and parking lots, in hospital-owned vehicles or at any HH Health location. This policy applies to everyone. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, healthy and healing environment for everyone.

Supporting Patients Who Use Tobacco

HH Health recognizes that quitting tobacco can be challenging. Patients who use tobacco products are encouraged to speak with their care team about available resources and support options during their hospital stay.
