Crestwood President Takes the Plunge to Support ALS Patients in North Alabama

Crestwood Medical Center President, Kyle Buchanan, traded his suit for icy water as he participated in the Alabama ALS Association’s CEO Soak, joining business leaders from across North Alabama to raise awareness and funds for people living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The annual event raised more than $100,000. A portion of the proceeds will directly benefit the ALS Clinic at Crestwood Medical Center, one of only a select number of clinics nationwide recognized as a Certified Treatment Center of Excellence by the ALS Association.

The designation reflects the clinic’s commitment to providing the highest standard of multidisciplinary care for patients living with ALS. Certified Treatment Centers of Excellence must meet national standards and bring together specialists across multiple disciplines, including neurology, pulmonology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutrition, respiratory care, social work and other support services, to ensure patients receive comprehensive, coordinated care in one location.

“Our ALS Clinic is more than a place where patients receive medical treatment, it’s where they find a team dedicated to helping them navigate every stage of this disease,” said Kyle Buchanan, president of Crestwood Medical Center. “Participating in the CEO Soak was a small way to help shine a light on ALS and support the incredible work happening right here in Huntsville.”

The clinic serves patients from across North Alabama, offering specialized care close to home while helping improve quality of life for patients and providing vital support to caregivers and families. In 2025, the ALS Care Clinic at Crestwood cared for more than 500 patients.

“This event continues to demonstrate what is possible when our community comes together for a common purpose,” said Sherry Kolodziejczak, director of Crestwood’s ALS Clinic. “We’re grateful for the funds raised through the CEO Soak that will directly support patient care, equipment, education and resources for families facing ALS.”

Robin Moore was diagnosed with ALS nearly a year ago and receives care at Crestwood’s ALS Care clinic.

The Certified Treatment Center of Excellence designation reinforces Crestwood’s ongoing commitment to delivering advanced, compassionate care to patients and families affected by ALS throughout North Alabama and the surrounding region.
