Crestwood Celebrates Inaugural Graduating Classes of Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Programs

Crestwood Medical Center marked a historic milestone in June as it celebrated the inaugural graduating classes of its Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Programs.

The commencement ceremonies recognized 20 physicians who successfully completed three years of residency training while caring for patients across North Alabama. It also represented the culmination of a vision launched in 2023 to strengthen the physician workforce and expand access to healthcare in the region.

“This was a proud moment for our hospital, our faculty and our community,” said Kyle Buchanan, President of Crestwood Medical Center. “These physicians helped care for our patients while completing rigorous training programs, and we are excited to see the impact they will continue to make throughout their careers.”

During residency, the graduates gained extensive clinical experience in both hospital and outpatient settings, caring for thousands of patients under the guidance of experienced physician faculty.

Several graduates chose to remain in Huntsville and the surrounding area, helping address physician shortages and improve access to care for local patients. Others continued their education through fellowship programs to pursue advanced specialty training.

“Physicians often establish roots in the communities where they train, and we’re thrilled that several of our graduates have chosen to build their careers here in North Alabama while others continue their journey toward specialized care,” said Lyle Bohlman, MD, Program Director of the Crestwood Family Medicine Residency Program. “By training physicians locally, Crestwood is helping improve access to care, support healthier communities, and strengthen the region’s healthcare infrastructure for years to come.”
